No, not doing a poll. But yesterday, as I was being introduced to my hubby's colleague and his colleague's wife, I said I was a photographer and shot a wedding that morning.

"Oh, is that a hobby or a job?"

Hubby says, "It was a hobby, now it's an addiction."

So, I asked him, "Do you really think it's an addiction?"

Hubby says, "Yes, but it's okay, you are just constantly thinking about it and spending money on it."

I never really thought about photography as an addiction, but I think it is. But who's to say addictions of this sort are bad? My hubby thinks it's great, if it makes me and others happy.

What are your thoughts? And post a pick that expresses why you love this hobby, please.

70-200 2.8 IS, my favorite zoom lens ever! It's what being addicted is all about.

I think it is totally an addiction... I got my DSLR in May of last year... I met a couple of POTN'ers locally and the rest is history... I'm totally addicted... I shoot every chance I get, I enjoy sharing with friends and family as well as on here. I haven't made a single dime yet but I care not... I enjoy it!

This shot expresses pretty well why I love this hobby. I was out shooting with a fellow POTN'er in the rural mountains of NC/TN. We pulled off the road at this building with tons of old metal advertising signs on it.... An old mountain man with his scythe walked up. We asked permission to take photos of the signs. Not only were we granted permission... he invited us inside to take pictures of an old advertising poster he had inside... Once inside, we had walked back in time... it was an old general store... the old white metal scale was still there... dust laid thick over almost everything... We realized at the same time we were in this old general store (not much more than a shack) that we were also in this man's home as a bed was on one wall. It was an amazing experience an opportunity to enter someone's life even if for but a few minutes...

Jennifer, that is great! I can't imagine what you were thinking at the time, though. It's a great story.

At the shoot on Thursday we walked past 3 police motorcycles. There was one with a sidecar. The sister of the bride said, "Wouldn't it be great to get a shot of them in that?" I said, "Why not?" So, I asked and it happened (I'll deny it in a court of law, though). Now the B&G have that in their memory books. I think photography allows us to see more than just a picture, though. It allows us to feel something.

I know this forum is an addiction. Photography probably could be too.

Always happy to hear some critique

Nothing wrong with being addicted to image making. On the other hand, being hooked on gear collecting without the image making accompanying it, is just sad. If you just wanna collect something, pencil shavings are cheaper.

I have taken over 20000 pictures on my 5D already and it's getting more use everyday. Yes, I do not have anything I don't use anymore. It's just worth having the right tools. But it is never ending, isn't it? There's always something else to get.

It was a real treat, and once we got back in the car to move on.... we just kinda looked at each other like... OMG I can NOT believe that just happened!!!! It was definitely a neat experience...

I think for me, as an introvert, photography gives me a place to start talking to people. In new situations... I am uneasy and shy, but having a camera does two things... it give me a way to 'hide' when I'm not yet comfortable... and it also sparks conversations...

I like that, Jennifer. I know what you mean even though many who have met me can say honestly, I am not an introvert. I also like being behind the lens. It's safe, yet special.

Once I get to know you I am not shy at ALL...(Ask Wool!) But when it is a new situation I am completely awkward and out of my element...:o being behind the lens is a great way for me to deal with all that!
