As some of you may or may not know, I decided to finally go full time as a wedding photographer this year (in Jan). I worked with my dad for the last 6 years, which was great, because it allowed me to start getting into wedding photography (ie: taking time off here and there for shoots, taking courses). It also kept a steady income as well!

I still pop my head in to his work for a few hours a week to help out with the paper work, but i've been spending the majority of my time trying to get the business going. I invested in a magazine article (ad) and also did a bridal show about a 1-1/2 months ago. So far I have 6 weddings booked for this year, with several more consults/potential ones this year, and one booking for next year, so things are going great.

Yesterday (well Saturday) I had my first engagement session of the year, and it went amazingly well. I was nervous at first (as I generally am) but the couple was so awesome to work with, and I think we got a bunch of keepers! I borrowed Cosworth's pocket wizards for a few of the shots, which worked SO amazingly well, but I think I might just hold out until the Radio Poppers come, instead of investing in the PW's.

Anyhoo, enough babbling, here's a few from the session, with more on my blog (external link).

My absolute FAVORITE shot of the session taken with my new 50L! 50L haters be warned, this lens ROCKS at all apertures! No focus issues for me!

Classic Gujustud style and feel. Great shots particularly the ones using the reflection in the glass (here and on your blog).

Thanks everyone for your comments!!

The last one was a mix of a tilt/shift along with a 580 w/ pocket wizard set to 1/4 power and zoomed at 105 hand held to the far left, pointed at their face.

Wow! Love your work. Now I miss my 50mm 1.8 from looking at your shots (my 50mm fell to the cement and broke).

How far away were you from the subject when you took those shots? (I find it hard to use the 50mm unlike you)

Thank you! I used my 50 only on my 1D during the shoot (love the 45 focus points which really comes in handy with such a shallow DOF), so I have a 1.3 crop with that.

I don't believe ANY of my shots have been cropped at all, so if anything I'd say maybe around 10' or so from the subject?

Now I have an Idea of what the diffence is.

Thanks again. Now I love your cam. Hehehe

Nice! Congrats on such a running start.

Just a thought, in the swing picture...if she were actually swinging (fairly wide arc) and he was catching her in that shot, well I just thought it might look pretty cool, like she's been out in the world all alone (the end of the arc) and now she's home (back side of the arc with him catching her) Laughing merrily of course! :)

Well done, thanks for sharing with us!
