I recorded video using my A720. Due to my old Mac OS (10.1.5), I can't upload the video directly from my camera; I have to plug the memory card into an adapter and upload it as if from an external drive. It works, and I can view video in Quicktime.

Well, I uploaded a recently recorded video then erased the contents of the video card. Later, I wanted to view the same video using a friend's TV, so I uploaded the video from my iMac BACK onto the memory card. It would neither play on the camera's screen NOR the TV. The camera viewfinder shows a NO IMAGE message.

Is there a way to get the video BACK onto the memory card so it's viewable on the camera or the TV I plug the camera into? I'm guessing the Mac changed the file suffix or something. It currently shows the video as an .AVI file.

That's what it should be, IIRC. But the file has to be in directory \DCIM\100CANON\MVI_1001.AVI or the like for the camera to see it.

Thanks for the help; putting it in the DCIM directory makes sense. I didn't do that before.

I tried it and it still doesn't work, so I recorded a test piece to see what the differences might be.

I now suspect my problem is, I trashed the .THM file that accompanies each video file, thinking it wasn't necessary. The test segment I recorded creates the .THM file and of course, the test segment plays in the camera just fine.

Unfortunately, I emptied my Mac's trash can, so the accompanying .THM file is gone. Any way to recreate it?

Jon-Thanks; You Inspired Me To Find The Answer!

After reading your thread and my reply, I got the idea to search for a thread on recovering .THM files. I found this:

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=66313

So, I made a bogus video at least as long as the video I wanted to recover. I trashed the .avi file and renamed it's accompanying .thm file the same as the video I wanted to "put back" into the camera such as, xyz123.thm. It worked!

Thanks for your help!
