Canon must have a real dilemma right now, 1D MKIII plagued by focus issues, 1DsMKIII way too expensive for what it is, Nikon D3 great reviews at a great price, low cost Pentax/Samsung at 14MP. Sounds absolutley perfect for a 16MP 5D MKII 5fps, Live View, Dust Reduction at $3K....taking bets on launch date....taking Sept '08

Oh, I think around November this year at the next big PhotoExpo thing or other photo meeting. I also think the new 5DII is going to be around $3500 to start, which I think will really cut into the 1D series.

I'll go 20th October... I'd like it to be, say, this month but I don't know how likely that is :p

What Suzy said. And the 1Ds MkIII isn't outta line compared to the 1DsMkII. The only thing that might make me upgrade from the current 5D would be 12,500 ISO and really improved 3200 ISO. 16 bit ...

December 21 2012

i wish people would stop with nonsense... the reason why canon has no need to replace the 5d is because it's still the best camera at the cheapest price for what it does. in fact, it's the only camera that gives you full frame in a package not much larger than other prosumer cameras. if nikon, sony, or another slr manufacturer made a full frame camera that was as good as the 5d, then canon would react... besides, the d3 is .7mp less for more than twice the price if you are one of those MP happy people. as for 8k being too expensive for 22mp, think again. most medium format backs started around 14k and went up from there back when 21MP was popular. now that 22mp is old, you can get some around $10k. the cheapest thing you can get is probably the mamiya zd (external link), and that's 7k WITHOUT a body.. add another 1.5k for that. of course, then you can't use your ef lenses, and you're stuck between iso100 and 400, at 1.2fps... i'll take 5fps at iso3200 on the 1dsmkiii any day.

Too much pressure from Nikon right now, I think Canon will announce prior to ovember to save sales and migration of current users

I have no idea on the date of the new 5d, but I am willing to bet it will have live view, 5-8FPS drive, 6400ISO, wheather sealing, 14-16mp or so, and a 3" screen. Basroil mentioned the D3. The D3 is a different camera compared to the 5d. It is more a speed camera, where the 5d is all about detail. I once saw a test on here (I cant remember the thread, but someone will) of the D3 with 24-70mm F2.8 Nikkor and a 5d with the same lens on a converter. The 5d had more center sharpness (since an optical converter was used it hurts sharpness, thus saying something about the 5d), while th D3 had better corner sharpness( it was again because of the converter on the FF edges.) I really think that Canon has the 5d in a sweet spot in the camera world. Not too out of the price range ($2900 vs 5000 for the 1d), excellent image quality with a good feature set. All in all, a good camera. I do how ever think that Canon will update the thing with what I mentioned above, simply because people have always complained about the lack of these features that the higher end cameras have. And it not being updated in over 2 years.

Basroil....I totally agree with your post as of now, I am a 5D owner. However what is true today is not true of tomorrow and if Canon need to keep there position (or as some may same reclaim there position) then they need to provide leading edge products that compete. No matter how much we love the current offering, they have to compete, and as such we benefit

Guess what, canon's other FF camera, the 1dsmkII, needed 2.5 years to be replaced

If only nikon had a FF version of the d300...
