with my hubby ( hes a tool collector) "but i need it for work!!"
hes a mechanic on helicopters. " even if i only use it once a year, its still nice to have"

he has spent about 7k on tool in the last year.. ick.

what i save on my own is mine, and my hubby is fine with that. and i had about 4k saved, but were trying to buy a house in the next 6 months.. so i thouvght having my own home was much cooler than upgrading camera gear for now.

:)

....put the prices of the "L" lens, car, tv, etc, and put in on a Pivot table in Excel. Create some graphs and finally show her how the "L" lenses are a sound investment choice by it retaining much of it's value with negligible low depreciation. What do you think?

To really deliver the message, put it on Powerpoint with the custom animations:p

Hey Fillet, should I buy a nice projector to really convey the message in the presentation? Or maybe a second approach buy a gift half the value and present that at the same time as the purchase to add some 'Soft Focus' or 'Circles of Confusion' to the whole event thus slipping under the radar:-)

I've got nothing. I just need to save my own money which we have declared is MY money. I save $2 a day and that's that. If I need extra, well, I beg. :D

Just paint the house off white and the gutters red. :)

OP: Just buy the lens and use the Jedi mind trick. "This is the same lens I've had for years" ;) don't forget the hand wave thing though

Yup, left it outside and it swelled from the humidity.

Something will always need fixing around the house.

The car will always break.

The children will always need braces.

We'll always need new glass.

As long as the husband and wife discuss the purchase and each understands the others needs, everything will be fine.

<Dang, that was funny! - I crack myself up!>

And remember the most important piece of advice - it's easier to seek forgiveness than permission!

Nope, it implies it will get smaller in cold climates!

Wifey and I each have our own little "slush fund". If we get rid of older stuff, selling it on Ebay, Craigslist, or on a forum like this, the money goes back in. As long as the bills are paid and everything is caught up, it's not a problem.

I was looking at a new lens, but the car needs tires. That's tricky, because for us, it's kinda technically two different budgets. OTOH, we're looking at starting a family, and wifey agreed that some good basic equipment upgrades now, while we're more liquid, made sense to capture photos for the future. She was really great about me moving up to the 30D and a few other lens purchases, so I don't think I'm gonna push my luck for a while. :D
