Went back to the lake about 5:00 today and got some more shots with better light. I'd love to go back in the morning but it's supposed to be super windy!

The first shot is amazing. You must have been pretty close to get these shots. What equip were you shooting with? ::A|S::Shadiow::

Apr 15, 2008 09:30 | #15 Thanks for the comments everyone, I'll try to respond in one giant post! Uhland wrote in post #5330070 Super photos! I love #1 for the obvious reasons. Not so hot on the borders. Thanks - I'm curious as to whether you don't like borders in general or if there is something specific about this border. I kind of like it but am always willing to experiment! sam walker wrote in post #5330354 great birds come in black and white. Loons are always a favorite visitor in my corners. Sam Thanks, it's our state bird and a lot of people here are very excited about so many in town right now. From what I understand, this isn't typical, and I don't think it will last long. Kevin wrote in post #5330741 WOW, that first one is great Liz. Loons are such a beautiful bird during breeding plumage. Thanks, I guess since they're only here spring/summer, we never get to see their non-breeding plumage. But they are quite beautiful and interesting to watch. Mguthrie wrote in post #5330798 Great shots! Amazing alignment on that first one. Excellent IQ too. Thanks, there were so many loons around and they were constantly moving. I was hoping to get an symmetrical alignment like this where they were all looking the same direction. Opportunities like that were few and far between because they move so fast. And then you never know then they'll disappear under the water! jlcarnagey wrote in post #5330810 Very nice detail. Cool shots. Thanks, it was my first chance to be this close to loons! canonloader wrote in post #5330828 Nice shots Liz. Is that water drops on his face? By the way, guess who's back at Goose? Both Red and Barred Brown? ![]() Thanks Mitch. Yes, they have very smooth feathers and those are beads of water. They periodically put their head under water to look for fish. You're killing me with that woodpecker and owl, you know! ajosteve wrote in post #5330829 Just loons? These are fabulous shots, love that second one! I've never seen this bird myself...very nice captures. Thanks, I got lucky when that loon swam fairly close! I haven't really had a chance to watch them this much in the past. Fascinating bird and a rare opportunity right here in town. westcoaster17 wrote in post #5331023 Those are outstanding shots. Love them. Super sharp. Great detail. Thanks! I hope I get the chance again! Shadiow wrote in post #5331037 Stunning, I haven't seen loons in a while. You must be down in southern MN. The first shot is amazing. You must have been pretty close to get these shots. What equip were you shooting with? Thanks, yes I am right here in the Twin Cities. They are all over town on lakes that are partially thawed. This lake is at a preserve in Bloomington a few miles from where I live. There is an aerator in the lake which they have running to open up a portion of the lake for migrating water fowl. It's a great opportunity to have this kind of access to so many loons right in the middle of suburbia! I was shooting with a 1D Mark III, and 500 f/4 with teleconverter, on a monopod. Anke wrote in post #5331228 Really lovely shots, Liz. Beautiful birds! That first shot is really lovely, get it on the wall! ![]() Thanks, I am really happy with that shot! Stormin_24 wrote in post #5331790 Just Loons?? These are awesome birds... Protected here in NH... Nicely done... Thanks, I mean just loons as opposed to loons and ducks. Somehow a duck snuck in, though! lkb-28 wrote in post #5332122 Hello Liz; What a fabulous series... #1 is definately a wall-mounter! Nice job... Very "Golden Pond"! Cheers; Lee Thanks, I visit this park often and feel very lucky to have such a great place this close to home. Howler-Cat wrote in post #5332886 They're not just loons....they're exceptional loons!
