Borrowed some flash units and stuff from my camera club this weekend to try to get a protrait of my boy.

Using my 300D I find that there is no PC socket......

Is there any way to add one to the hotshoe perhaps or am I stuck with having to slave the flash units to fire once the camera flash fires?

(Is this making sense?)

Then I saw an item in the Speed Graphic catalogue called a Kaiser 1300 included in this link --> HERE <-- (external link)

The 1300 is about half way down.

Can anyone comment as to whether any of these items will meet my needs?

Thanks

ATHRoss

Get any Canon -EX Speedlite, and it will work for you.

No need to waste money on a speedlight.

Be very careful of the advice you pass out on this topic. If the flash units he borrowed use more than 6v of trigger current, the stuff on that page will pass it through his 300D contacts and stand a chance of frying that circuit in his camera.

I faced the same dilemma and use a "dedicated" flash that meets the Canon EX specs but in manual mode at lowest power setting to trigger slaved studio flash.

A Wein Hot Shoe to PC-Safe Sync is all you need. Try not to use flash units with much greater then 6 volts trigger voltage.

For strobes of unknown origin it's best to use Voltage Regulated Safe Syncs from Wein

Also check out Strobe voltages here:

I'm going through this right now with a Sunpack 555...it's right on the line of safe/over voltage.
