If you're flying, keep your camera gear with you. You may get pulled aside, but it's well worth it if your gear never shows up to your destination. there are several backpacks on the market that will hold all of your camera traveling needs...

D700, D300, 28-70 2.8, 80-200 2.8, Elinchrom Dlite4 kit, CS3, and tons more inlcuding, talent, vision, determination, and blessings:D

I find that packing clothes into Daily bundles, then putting them into seperate inner bags helps, as does rolling polo shirts etc.

The cubes from eagle creek are the best kit I have come across, iron a shirt, put it in and then it comes out the other end still ironed.

Camera wise, if you must check in your gear then i find that polo shirts and towels make just as good packing material as camera specific solutions, and have a dual use!!

I've never had any problems with people trying to steal my camera straps. Probably because it takes too long to get them off the camera. :)

Whenever I fly somewhere I always take me camera on board with me. Most of the time I'll travel with 2-3 lenses and the body tho. If I need anything else, I'll pre-ship those items ahead of time to the hotel where I'm staying.

I am a firm believer in zip-loc bags for everything. You can use the large ones to pack sets of clothes. You can get them large enough to fit a part of pants, underwear, socks & shirt. One of the big benefits, besides being organized, is the fact that your clothes will be fresh wehn you take them out regardless of where you are at. I did this for many years as a U.S. Marine. Not matter how dusty or wet it was, I always had fresh skivvies and such. You would be amazed at how nice that can be in rough conditions. The bags also allow you to get most of the air out, to make packing a bit easier.

Lastly, I started using the bags on my camera gear when I travel. No matter what temperature changes/condensation conditions you travel through, you can feel assured that your delicate gear is not being saturated with moisture or breeding mold . . .

That is the biggest packing tip that I could ever give . . .

I may be dumb, but I'm not scared . . .

Ghostrider

It is not the straps they steal, it is the slashing of the straps in some places and situations that result in the camera being stolen.

Grphx:
Three straps for now. I'm working on getting more goodies to hand out! I hate standard contests, I'd rather people share their information freely. This is why I have worked hard to keep Flying With Fish free of advertising, so there is no fear of offending an advertiser with what I write. Let me know what you've got....maybe you'll pick up a strap!

Rule #1 for packing -- overpack, then subtract.

When I travel, I pack EVERYTHING that I am taking with me into my Main bag. This includes my coat, shoes, laptop case, cameras, etc. Once it all fits, I take out my carry on stuff, which then leaves me with my main bag only partially full. But this leaves me a lot of options:

1) At security (on a carry on trip) I scan two items -- my laptop and 1 bag (where I stowed my coat, shoes, watch, keys, cell, etc.) I get through quicker and get hassled much less

2) In the terminal, its much easier to haul one bag around.

3) If I checked the bag, once I pick it up, I "refill" it with the carryon stuff -- once again, 1 bag.

4) If I do some shopping, I can adjust my packing easily without the need to add more bags

Also, my backpack is a carry on, and my main bags are always rollers.

This space for rent.

I would first make a list of everything you are sure you will need. Roll your clothes into cylinder shape. I actually read a great tutorial in the pssa test I had to take in school. Just make sure to bring only what you need. Roll your sock and or put little things into your shoes to save space is another good idea. Pack lightly. Bring extra underwear lol. In some areas you cant buy condoms thats just a thought. The vacuum seal bag things I herd are also a great investment. Also If you and a good friend / loved one are going together you can divide your things into two suitcases so If one gets lost you both will be able to survive. Make sure to put any medication in your carry on.

Keep chargers and cords in the same bags. Nothing worse than having the bag with the cords show up and not the bag with the charger. If you're bringing two bags, split your items so that if any one bag is lost, you're not totally pooched.
