So I took my history final this morning. Worth 100 points + 2 extra credit points.

I got the score back this afternoon (they have a lot of help in the history department)

101.5/102!

OH YEAH!

Is that the best you could do?

Congrats!!!

Yep...

It works neater when you have it in full screen mode. Then you just use it with Mac Spaces so you can swap from one screen to another.

You can share your User part of your mac with the Parallels machine. I've only started playing with it, so I'm sure there's other things you can do with it.

That is really cool. Even if I dislike windows. Enjoy it Pete!

And I'm about to vanish again to get stuff ready for tonight's baseball practice. But first, a rant.

I'm trying to coach on my Kindergartener's team, and my 3rd grader's team. I do it because I want to, and I enjoy it thoroughly, but also because I get calls from the Y every time we sign up asking for help, since they're regularly short volunteers.

I just got a copy of the game schedule last night -- 7 game season, and 1 (ONE) weekend out of 7 have they scheduled the games in such a way that I can be at both. In addition, they have put the two divisions on completely different fields, fields that are about 30 minutes drive apart on the weekends. That means that, if everything goes perfectly, I could probably see as much as 10 minutes of the youngest's games on 5 of the 7 weekends before having to scramble to get to the other field. And since things never seem to start on time, parking is always an issue, and traffic is rarely perfect, it's more likely that it would be completely impossible for me to see any of his games those 5 weekends.:evil::evil: So much for coaching on game days.

The youngest's team has a great group of parents involved in coaching, and I'm quite confident they'll be fine without me there. But I'll still miss seeing him play nearly the entire season.

The oldest's first practice is tonight. I don't know any of the other parents yet, and have no idea what kind of parent involvement I'm going to get from them. At this point, however, it looks like they'll have no choice but to take active roles on game day, because it may not be possible for me to do so.

I don't expect the entire league to build its schedule around my availability, but I know that there are other families who have kids of different ages, and who are going to find themselves in a similar position. Using two fields that are separated by so far was an absolutely horrible decision. I've called and left a message for the person running the league, since he wasn't available to take the call, but I don't expect any changes.

Even if I wasn't coaching, with the exception of 1 week out of the season, I don't know how I would be able to arrange things so that I could see both kids play.

Sorry for the rant. I'd like to say that I feel better now, but frankly, I'm still steamed. vmadvmadvmad

I'll have you know there are lots of times without rain here in Seattle. None that I can recall at the moment, but I'm sure that I could find some given the time. ;)

"Without rain" hardly equates to "dry", especially when it merely means sleet, mist or fog instead . . .

My oldest is sick this week and had to take finals. It's a bummer.

Feeling like I should have a tiara on tonight. I deserve it. I did order some decent Chinese food for dinner, coming at any moment. I'm getting really good at ordering this week. I've had so much photography to deal with. And still, I love it.

We sometimes think we are paying way too much here...but when you start comparing it to what you guys are paying...living here seems a bargain.

We pay $800 a month for a 950 Square foot three bedroom, two bath house and the two rentals (two bedroom, one bath) we manage go for $900 a month. This is all well below market levels for San Diego. The two-bedroom, one bath house next door is up for rent and the owner is asking $1475 a month. She hasn't gotten any takers yet that I'm aware of.

Me too. I haven't really touched a horn for roughly 45 years. I still own a very valuable clarinet, but I'm not sure where it is right now. It was mounted on a tripod the last time I saw it.

Sure it's not out the dessert, uh, desert somewhere?

Don't dis the train nerds - the railroad was the backbone of the nation for many years!

And may be again at the rate the airlines are imploding...

This (external link) is an interesting book to read if you're at all interested in the history of railroading. It's a very detailed history of the first transcontinental railroad. Considering the difficulties they faced back then, it's absolutely remarkable they were able to build it.

The railroad is still the undisputed champion at hauling vast quantities of freight in the most cost-effective manner. As fuel costs increase, that fact is going to become even more evident.

Stephen Ambrose was one of the best historical writers around. I have a number of his books, including the one about the transcontinental railroad. I was saddened to hear he had passed away.

It's because it's not a news article, but a blog post. I agree though, they should keep a "normal" language...

The AP actually publishes a "Style Book" for news writing.

I do. I don't eat food in public that requires fingers (i.e. ribs, corn on the cob, chicken) unless it's possible to cut them with a knife and fork. I don't eat sandwiches in public unless I'm really comfortable (or have no other choice) with my company. I have weird food issues...fondue is just in the list.

I'm just the opposite... I'll eat anything, anywhere, anytime. Heather says I'll eat anything that doesn't eat me first... You've heard of the "ten-second rule" usually invoked when a food item falls on the floor? Well, I observes a ten-minute rule...

I think this comes from eating cold C-rations out of a can while sitting on a hillside in the rain at night at Camp Pendelton Marine Base...

Frys = Computer & electronics chain stores.

I avoid Fry's like the plague...I don't know about the stores in other locales but the one here is staffed by a bunch of people, most of whom are wearing clothes that don't fit, that know little or nothing about the products they are trying to sell. If I buy something there, it's because I've already done my research about a product elsewhere and am going to Fry's for the best price.

The store here has a tendency to put returned merchandise right back on the shelf without determining if it is defective or not. I once found a Wacom tablet on the shelf that was missing the most important component (the pen) and it was priced at the original price. I called it to the attention of a salesperson and got shrugged shoulders in response.

Proms have sure changed since I went to high school. The only real expense I had, other than the tickets was the cost of renting a tux and a corsage for my date. Dinner was included the event and I drove my date and another couple to the prom in my parents Volkswagen. Now there's limos and after-prom parties that go on all night and hotel rooms and who knows what else. My feelings when my three step-daughters went to their proms was that it has gotten way out of hand...

We don't have any near us, so I don't need to avoid them. However, you're not the only person I've heard that from. Aside from the regular Big Box stores, closest we have is Micro Center. I'm more likely to order serious stuff from Newegg anyhow.
