I have been using these occassionally for a while now with 550 Speedlites. Lastolite claim only half a stop of light loss but I decided to test them the other day as I was beginning to doubt this. The results were (with front diffuser fitted only, not using internal one):
without Ezybox - f8 at 8 ft ISO 100
with Ezybox - f4.5 at 8ft ISO 100

That is more like two stops, has anyone else found this or have mine just got the wrong front diffuser?

I also sent Lastolite an email of complaint a month or so ago about how flimsy the mounting ring assembly is and that I had to permanently screw it to the bracket to stop it bending all the time, but they didn't see fit to reply.

TIA
Dave

Ooooh.
I've been planning to get one of these, too. I'd be interested to hear other people's experiences, too.
By the way, did you try contacting Bogen--I think they're the US reps for Lastolite. Might be easier even though your "over there."

I spoke to Lastolite, they said speak to Johnson, their distributor, as they handle their tech dept. I am still waiting for someone there to call me back...looks like I will be calling them again tomorrow. I may be selling mine to fund some decent lights if anyone is interested

Feel like I'm talking to myself here, but if anyone at all is interested I....actually I can't be bothered to share what I found out from Johnson today. If you want to know about Ezyboxes then go ask them like I did.
Thanks

Hmmmm. Actually, I've been watching this thread waiting to see/hear what happened. I've been considering a purchase for a couple of months or so and try tracking the posts on the Ezybox as much as possible.
I think there's more of you out there--these things seem to sell quickly (from Amazon and B&H, for example).

I've just found this thread. I'd be interested to know what Johnson had to say. I've contemplated in getting an Ezybox for a couple of months now.

I have also been watching this thread as I am considering getting the 60cm Easybox Hotshoe kit so I would also be very interested to know what Johnson had to say...

Best regards,

Anton

Well I have a 60cm softbox and love it. It seems to loose more light than just 1 stop (although I haven't metered it) but I love the light. I also use both diffusers which doesn't help the light lose. I use it fairly close most of the time anyway, so it isn't much of a concern for me.

If I remember, on my last shoot, using a Sunpack 383 in the softbox, I was shooting at about f6 iso 100 from about 6-8 feet with the flash at 1/2 power. I was able to light up a couple for a 3/4 with no problem and the light looks great. I just wish it wasn't so expensive!

So, I got the whole lot sent back to Team Work and got a complete refund. Problem was that the advertising that went out with these was totally wrong...it said "very little light loss, less than half a stop". They actually have a 2 stop diffuser on the front so you will need a very powerful flash unless you are working close to your subject....no good for what I needed them for.

That was only using one diffuser, two would lose even more light

Yes, it is more than 1 stop. I wonder if I can use another white covering for the front. I have now 3 lightboxes. The Ezybox is by far my favorite to use since it sets up in no time. The others take forever. I am planning to use it for senior portraits this summer, even outdoors. I have the 24x24 one.
