Those pictures look like they didn't download all the way/correctly.

I had two different memory cards that both did that. They were much smaller, but it turned out it was the card that was corrupted.

Process of elimination would dictate that the only variable changed prior to this problem occuring was the new CF. Considering it's a fairly 'budget-brand' CF I can't say I'm surprised.

I've seen this before as well and it did seem to be the CF/SD cards that were the problem.

This started happening to me today - right after my PC crashed in the middle of importing my files from the card. Now approx. 1 in 10 shots come out like this. I assume there's no way to save a card once it is corrupted...

Try formatting in camera and testing with some no-value shots to see if it works. If not working after that I believe it's toast, perhaps Melba toast given the size.

"no-value" shots? That's pretty much all I take!
Anyway, I tried an in-camera format and still got some messed up shots. Then I formatted the card with the PC (full format, not quick), reformatted with camera and took some test shots. Seems to be working fine so far. Hope this helps the OP.

I agree with this post.
Here's why: Last year I posted a question along those lines, and most responses were suggesting the card. I went out and bought 2 new cards and was getting the same thing.
Not sure what your workflow is, but I was copying images off card to a folder on an external hard drive. Shortly after I posed this question to the forum, that drive failed.
I have since replaced the external hard drive and have not had this issue again...
Just something to consider. Good luck!

If that is the case, then it sounds like it is the hard drive. If the hard drive had corrupted sectors, then when Windows (or Mac) tried to write to that sector, it would become corrupted as well. It has been my experience that Windows especially will be able to "function" even if the drive is beginning to fail. However, you will notice little things here and there, that are starting to not act right, until the whole drive fails, or the file system becomes unstable.

Two questions.

1. Do you copy and paste onto the external drive, or do you cut and paste?
2. If you simply copy and paste, leaving the original image on the card, when you put the card back in the camera, does it come up correctly?
