I have a 5d and 580exII flash unit as well as a st-e2 transmitter.
my question is do they play well with other? and how do i acomplish this.

Put the 580EX into "Slave" mode and mount it somewhere forward of your camera; put the ST-E2 on your hot shoe and you're pretty much set.
