Great Diving Beetle larva. Will eat tadpoles and small fish - the Jaws of the pond!

Just thought - do you know if bugs like this moult underwater- I assume they must but how do they "dry/ harden" their exoskeleton ?

Bill & Racketman - yes, I use a small aquarium.
Brian - I assume they do moult underwater although I've never seen an exuvia. I suppose the hardening of the exoskeleton in an aquatic environment is another one of the miracles of nature!
