I had dropped my camera right around Christmas of '03. I took my camera to Comet Camera in Philadelphia. They had the camera for about a month. They sent it to Canon to be repaired (new lcd housing and back of casing). All was well. I used the camera for a little while and noticed that it would turn off if shaken or moved just right. I think there is a sensor or something having to do with the battery compartment door. I don't know, but now I was told since the camera had been dropped and fixed it is no longer under warranty. I don't know how long Canons work is warrantied, because the camera has no physical damage (its not been dropped) but the shutting off thing has to be fixed... and it's happening to me more now that I use it more. I am wondering what I should do from here?
I'd contact Comet Camera and ask about options. They may have a contact in Canon who can help you. They being an authorized repair center and what not may be able to pull strings you can't yourself. If that fails, there are posts on this forum about the G1 camera and some faulty capacitor/fuse or something. Some people had luck contacting the Canon service center directly and speaking to a manager. In one of those posts, the name and phone # of the service center manager is listed. Give him a call and see if he can't help you.
