Was just wondering which of the above Canon Multiplier's people would recommend, I am looking to use it mainly with the Canon 70-200 F2.8L (looking to buy that lens at the same time)

You will notice no image degradation with the 1.4 and a loss of 1 stop. The 2X causes significant image degradation, a dark viewfinder, and a loss of 2 stops.

If you can get them both. You can always get that extra little bit of range (on a bright clear sunny day during winter)

Seriously, the 1.4x is far better, but the 2x will get you a bit more range when needed. Just from a quality perspective I don't recommend hooking the two together, but it does work. detail gets better, but the picture looks worse, as in you thought ISO 3200 was bad.

Scott is correct in his evaluation. I have both the 1.4x and 2x Canon converters and seldom use the 2x with my 70-200mm IS lens because of the degradation of the image. To get an acceptable image, stopping down 2 stops to f/11 is necessary - Not really useful without a bright sky. The 2x is only slightly better than re-sampling to a larger size from 280mm IMHO.

With the 1.4x converter on my 70-200mm IS I see no noticeable difference from pictures taken without it, even when shooting wide open.

Sometimes any picture is better than no picture.
