What is the difference between the Canon 16-35mm f2.8 USM and the 16-35mm USM II version? All things being equal, how much more is the version II worth for a used lens? THANKS, Hank

The II has an 82mm filter thread, while the mark1 has a "regular" 77mm. Supposed to minimize vignetting on FF and 1.3x sensors - I´m curious whether it would have a significant impact on my 20d with its 1.6x sensor, anyone in the know on this? I believe Bryan at the-digital-picture.com measured the new one sharper than the mark1, too. Not entirely sure.

we have a 16-35L mk1 at work, and it's really kind of soft, compared to my 85mm prime, and even my sigma 24-60 is sharper than it. i have a feeling it may just need to visit the canon repair center for a little tune-up action though. it's been here since before i started working for the company. i'm interested in seeing some mk1 vs mk2 shots though. i've searched the forums for this, but i don't think anyone's owned both and compared.

The difference is minimal unless you are shooting on a full frame body. The big improvement is mostly on the edges.
