My A630 (which I love) suddenly has refused to transfer pics to my computer.
I am pretty clueless what I am doing, but I must have hit a button or something that I shouldn't have.
I am just using the cord that came with the camera to transfer pics.
Any help appreciated, as this is getting frustrating..
Thanks!
Sharon

What operating system? Does the computer see the camera? Have you got another USB cable you can try?

I'm a total newbie (old and clueless about computers AND digital...lol...) ...what do you mean by an operating system? My computer has windows XP. No, my other USB cable doesn't fit. I guess the computer doesn't see the camera, cuz nothing happens at all..
This is so sierd, it was fine till I changed the batteries, which are working cuz I can take pics and review them, just not transfer them.
I only got the camera a couple of months ago and am still in the beginner learning stages...

Windows XP is an operating system.
If you connect the camera to the computer (camera set to "Review"), you should hear a beep, and the camera should show up in "My Computer" if everything's working right. Try plugging the cable into a different USB port on your computer. Are you using a USB hub? Try going direct to the computer.

I am going direct to the computer. I tried with my old Kodak camera, and it works, so it's not the port.
When I try with my Canon absolutely nothing happens, it just sits there, no beep, no nothing. And yes, I switch over to transfer...lol...
Could I have gotten dirt in there somewhere?
Could I have accidently put it on a wrong setting?
Do USB cables go bad?
I've only had the camera a couple of months, and am really a digital newbie, so I am a bit lost...the manual hasn't helped with this..
Thank you so much for your help..
I MISS my camera...lol...

Well, card readers tend to be faster than direct camera connections, as well as not running down your batteries. Cables can go bad, but it's a standard mini-5 pin USB cable you can get almost anywhere.

It's wicked awful difficult to diagnose this kind of problem via internet. The only clue seems to be that the problem began after you changed batteries, which makes me wonder if camera settings got changed by accident. Wild idea - change the batteries again. Can't hurt. Might help.

What you need is a friend (or a kid!) to sit down next to you at the computer and go thru the camera manual with you page-by-page and hopefully figure out what's wrong.

Good luck.

Yeah, my dear grandson (about to turn 21) moved to California just when I need him!
Kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I now have the camera working tho.
Went to Target and talked to the nice guy behind the camera counter, who verified that my cable was fine and he was able to transfer the prints to his computer.
He suggested I upload (download?) the original software that came with the camera, which I hadn't done cuz it worked fine without, so I did, and voila! It now works.
Wierd, methinks, cuz up till then it worked just fine and dandy all by itself. This modern electronic world is SO confusing to us old farts...lol...
Thanks a lot for your efforts in my behalf! No doubt I'll return with more problems..in the meantime, photography is SO much fun!

Probably Microsoft broke something with a new security update.
