Catching droplets

Hello all.

I have seen some amazing shots captured with water droplets or coloured liquid just as they hit the water.

As a novice my question is can i acheive this without a seperate flash, just my in camera flash?

Any tips would be welcome.

Run some tests? I think that would be tough to do because you need the flash to want a very short flash duration. If you can find a cheap Vivitar 283 on eBay, it would be ideal for that type of thing, & they last forever. It would also give you a 2nd flash for other things, too:
