Until you got them...

Ace Camera in Loudoun is having a big sale. I want to stock up on a few things. I already bought a Gitzo tripod (80 bucks off!) and some extra CF cards (Extreme III) for a sale price plus an extra rebate... and I bought a remote.

Anything else I should snap up? I don't need to get crazy right now - I'm still a beginner.

Carabiners. I keep at least 3 hooked to my camera bag at all times and use them for all sorts of things.

While wandering around, one keeps my monopod attached to my bag. Another holds my hat if it's not on my head. The third clips my water bottle to the bag. With the tripod set up, one of them can hook the bag to the pod as extra weight. If I'm shooting sports, I'll generally be right next to a chain link fence, so two of them hook to the fence to keep the bag off the ground.

Granted, they're probably not something on sale at your photo shop, but they're seriously the most versatile thing I've got in/on my bag

I totally agree. I LIKE the fence idea. I never thought of that!!

Neither had I, until my prime shooting location was in a big patch of mud. Necessity, invention, etc. =P

What a great idea. And to think I have about five of them extra just sitting on my kitchen counter. They are going in and on my bag right now!

Thanks

A filter pouch - wallet - spare filters - the best you can afford . It's easier to change a filter than clean a lens .
Spare batteries and a spare charger .
A spare tripod bolt - I've never broken one - BUT last month at a wedding , the photographer broke his and here comes the niece .
This happens more than you think with flash brackets and QR plates .

I'm actually looking at getting an intervalometer. How do you like it? I've seen the tc-80N3 on ebay for CHEAP, like $35 from Hong Kong. Could they be fake?
