I picked up a PowerShot A590 today. It's the first time I've touched a P&S in about 2 years. First thing I did was put it up to my face to look through the viewfinder. Funny how your actions become reflexive... :o

I've only used a DSLR for the last 2 years. I forgot about the live view screens on P&S cameras.

I know exactly how that works. I have a P & S and a XTi. I use the XTi when I want good pictures and the P&S when I'm on the run and need to be able to pocket it. I mess it up in public all the time.

Thanks for the clarification.

You know that I have never grown used to looking at and composing by looking at a LCD. I always have and always will require a viewfinder to put in front of my eye before I will feel comfortable.

Only exception to that is if I need to raise above my head or next to the ground where my big nose doesn't have room to squeeze or with a video camera.

So..... Does that mean Im doing it wrong when I hold my DSLR out in front of me and try to get the shot. I thought the screen was broken, it just had all these crazy numbers and symbols on it, like it was written in greek or something :) :)

When I was on vacation I was shotting with a 40d. Many people came up to me asking if I could take a picture of them with their P&S because I must have been a pro. Most of the time I tried to put it up to my eye.

My last P&S (before my DSLR) was a Sony H5 and it had an electronic viewfinder as well as the 3" LCD. In bright sunlight or when I wanted to save battery life (what a pig) I'd use the viewfinder. But now I find myself doing the same thing as others here. When I do use the LCD on my P&S I feel like I'm not taking the picture properly

I have never been able to take a quality shot with a P&S using the live view. My hands are way to shaky. That and I don't want to make the face you see when most people chimping their P&S!

I drove my girlfriend crazy when we were looking for a (P&S) camera for her, she would find one she liked and I would say "but it doesn't have a view finder". She could have cared less as long as the camera was cute.

Doesn't that make ya want to beat your head off something sharp? Last year I was asked to find a great P&S for my now ex because she knew I knew about electronics and would take the time to look over tons of reviews for all the possibilities. After I found one we went to buy it... "Oh LOOK! A pink camera!"

My mom recently purchased a P&S. Every time I'm asked to use it I put it up to my eye like an idiot. Seriously, what is wrong with a viewfinder?!? :D
