LOVE this watch! If I had this (and actually wore it) I would prefer the hands being black though to make the contrast better so it would be a little easier to read the time. lol

As promised earlier, here are some of my published images of the HM4 Panda "Podracer". An extreme close up of the white gold Panda sitting on the watch holding the lead. This image is much harder to photograph than it appears. Even at f16 the depth of field is not deep due to close focussing distance. Controlling the reflections from having burnt out highlights was awesomely difficult. I did not want an overly diffused light as it would flatten the image and fail to give it the 3D effect as well as texture. In this image I wanted to capture and show off the Panda and its steel lead that is connected by a clever set of catches. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com …SVxuZ4A/_MG_2451Aweb1.jpg Managed to get the CEO of MB&F to do model the watch for me here. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com …800/MaxBusser0001Aweb.jpg Finally, this image - looks deceptively simple but was the hardest to obtain. As the watch is three dimensional in that for a watch, it had a lot of height, breadth and length, it was a challenge to capture the panda in focus without having the rest of the watch being blurred or poorly lighted. I needed to use layers and create a composite. Much like focus stacking but more painstaking as each layer was carefully adjusted and balanced in terms of tone and lighting. Im still trying to figure that out because when ever i do it you can still see the paper or what ever in the picture. Is it some also some photoshopping ? It appears to be a black backrop cloth if you dont have any back drops any sort of solid colored fabric can work. I placed mine on a pillow.

You can raise your watch onto a piece of glass or anything clear. Playing around with a frosted surface may work as well. The amount of things to experiment with is amazing. For instance, you can put anything black around the watch to play with the shadows of the watch and how far away you put it helps shape these shadows. I use all kinds of home made gizmos and props. The idea as mentioned by others is to lift the subject off the table by a few cms and let the macro lens do all the work to change the background to blurred bokeh in black. Adapted wire hangers, plastic stands etc. Most of the time I do not need to photoshop because I fashion them in black. But if I had to do it, clone stamping does the trick.
