Zoo Animals

The origin of the name 'Singapore' - historically in the Majapahit/Malay language, means Lion City.

The odd reality is that there are no lions of any kind or any breed or sub breed in South East Asia.

This thread was created by me originally to practice animal photography before I went off to Safari (which I eventually did). Then I realised that Zoos, at least the top quality Zoos are now the last remaining sanctuaries for highly endangered animals and often no longer found in the wild. Some Zoos do try to breed the animals to return them into the wild to repopulate their original locations. Others, their habitats are completely gone or destroyed. One in particularly sad is the jungles of Borneo now down to less than a 1/5 of its original size wiping out huge numbers of Orangutans. Now they are harder and harder to find in the wild. The same can be said of many bird species. So I encourage those who want to improve their animal wildlife photography to stretch their skills in Zoos and the more folks take it up the more likelihood that people will work harder at conservation.

I remember you describing being married to a Cuban(maybe I'm misrembering)
as a response to my questioning about how a foreigner gains access
to the 'forbidden' country, while it seems you've travelled literally worldwide.
Turkey, to Cuba, to France, to Madagasgar, to Spain, to the Galapagos,
to Italy, to Africa, to Australia, and maybe even the North and South Poles...

Yes, I think I've misundestood you for another.

My apologies for that, while I'd still request some explanation on your posts,
