Forgive me if this is posted at the wrong forum, but I wasn't sure where it should go after looking at the options.

My in-laws in England say they can now only view my smugmug photos in thumbnail size. They have dial-up and had difficulty before, but smugmug was able to 'force' the page view to be user-defined, which worked until recently. I don't know if it could be something smuggie has upgraded/changed on their end, or if it is just user error by the in-laws. I've written to them to ask. I know they mentioned something about being offered to install Flash, but I can't see how that could have anything to do with it. I know smugmug has recently offered that option for site users.

Thanks for any help.

Hum... I would try dgrin.com. They are the official support forum for SmugMug. It could quite possibly the flash though.

I know smuggy has recently upgraded their slideshow view to be flash based, dunno if that is the reason.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering as well. I remember being asked if I wanted to use Flash. I would think if you weren't using the slideshow option, though, that it wouldn't affect the viewing?

Just be certain that they don't have the style dropdown selection set to "all thumbs" - other than that I have no idea. Smugmug has superb support though and a question on Dgrin will get a good answer.

But doesn't having it set to "all thumbs" just mean the page comes up as all thumbnails and they can click to get the larger view one picture at a time? I'm pretty sure smugmug forced the view to be all thumbs so as not to take 3 hours to load on thier dial-up? I'll have to write at the forums tomorrow. Thanks.

Honestly I think with all of the pictures you have in your Family 2008 gallery, the "All Thumbs" option might be a bad idea, especially for people with dial up. It takes a while for the page to load even on a broadband connection. I would consider switching to the typical SmugMug style where you get approx 9 thumbs on the side and one big image. This way if they want to view a picture larger, they don't have to use the back button (and load the whole page again) or scroll through with the next button. IMO it makes it much quicker and easier to navigate.

That's a good point - but doesn't the standard smugmug option have flash? Like when the exif pops out? Maybe I should just send some of those images to the archives so there are less of them at a time. I'll try both though. Thanks.

Oh - for some reason they complained they couldn't see it when I originally had the smugmug default. Who knows. It's more than likely on their end than on mine I'm beginning to think...
