I know it's personal preference but do you use the * button to focus or focus with the shutter button for landscapes ? I always use * button since I mainly shoot sports.

Set Custom Function 4 to "1", and the * button becomes the only thing that activates autofocus. That's the way I use my 20D 100% of the time. It separates the focus and metering functions instead of having both activated anytime I press the shutter release button halfway. In other words, I have a lot more control over the camera.

I can't stand using the * for focus, so for me its always activated by the shutter. I don't even use the AF-ON button on my 40D.

I can't imagine it really matters for landscapes how you focus; as long as you remember to press the * button if you have it set that way. One shot mode presumably preferred.

I have to agree with you... After reading from others that this feature "*" is so nice to have turned on, I tried it for 2 weeks. I just find the whole idea very awkward to deal with. I set my metering, then before taking the picture I press the "*" to gain focus, then press the shutter button .... It just feels way to 'busy' for me to accomplish something already there in the shutter button.

I know, I know... some of you really prefer the '*' feature ... just saying that I stuggle with it. Maybe if I would just set it and leave it that way for a year I'll get used to it... YMMV.
