Circular Polarizing question?

It is probably answered on here somewhere....but is the white line on the circular polarizer supposed to be up if you want to polarize the sky? The filter didn't come with instructions, but I ass-u-me that is how it is used?

No, it can be anywhere you like. You rotate it to get the effect you want.

The line is just a reference point.

The white line is a reference not really a "number" on a compass to dial into!
