Well I tried out my rig and I thought I should do a hood mounted rig because its easier to clone out instead on the hood since im not good with photoshop. How long of a boom should I make for a 1.6 crop sensor? Because attaching the rig on the hood needs more reach. Would a 13-4 foot long boom suffice? And ste823 my local area doesn't have alluminum.what would you feel about having a 1.5 thick emt that's 12-3 foot long?

You have to do it bit by bit and do what works for you. Some shot have too much things to photoshop out so i give up right away and find something with less things in the way of shopping out.

I try my best to avoid it before hand.

I started reading this thread yesterday and am about half way through it. Have not seen any mention of using carbon fiber tubes for the extension pole. Has anyone tried it? I would think that you would get less flex and be just as strong as aluminum tubes. Also, if anyone has any detailed under car mount plans, could you PM me?

I work with carbonfiber tubes, but I' m not really happy with the results at the moment - too much bounce, too much flex and the price was really high - about 500,00 € in germany.

My idea was - I first started with alu-pipes - the carbon fiber have less flex and less weight in compare too the alu. I choose a solution of 6 parts of 1meter to put it together like a telescop and be able to transport it in any car. May be, that it's better to choose less parts to reduce the flex.

If the length isn't more than 3-4 meter from the suction cup it works, but if i want to get more distance the problems starts.

I'm working on more stability using steelcables - the results become better, but they are not perfect. Maybe there are some mistakes in my work with that pipes, perhaps other people working more successful with it.

Sorry for my bad english.

first and second are real good G. you need to get rid of the rig in the reflection of the car in the second one. not a fan of the 3rd one.

I shoot photos of cars.

This has been a great thread with great info to extract. Massive growth from several individuals as they learn about building rigs, modifying their rigs and developing their craft. Huge thanks to all those willing to share their knowledge.
This is my first attempt using suction cup style rig. Learned plenty. Need to modify my rig to make more rigid by adopting STE823's tension device.
Quick questions to STE823: I noticed your cable system is one piece. Do you find it necessary to tighten both turn buckles to create the tension? Any concerns about the hooks becoming "unhooked" from the pole ends? Thinking about further modifying your idea by installing eye hooks at both ends. Thanks for sharing your set up. Great pics and great website.
