Decided to rig my nsx the other day... kinda nerve racking with no assistant. Let me know your thoughts... this one was super easy to clone.

My first rig was 18 feet long, but that was kind of sketchy. I built a second one and it's designed to be 16 feet long but it's used at 12 feet most of the time.

4x - Aluminum tubing 2" OD (.125 wall) in 4 foot sections. Total 16 feet

I'm glad to share my design, it's very similar to StE823's setup. This is it at 12 feet:

If I could give advice to anyone here, it would be this: if you want to build a rig, completely skip the boom designs you find on online diys. 1" EMT or even larger is crap. My rig started out as 1" EMT and it was just too heavy and had too much flex. Yes the aluminum tubing is quite expensive but it's much better. You can go with a 2" OD at twice the length of an EMT equivalent and be lighter and more rigid.

I use the sigma 10-20. It's a great lens but the light falloff is pretty bad. Photoshop's lens correction filter can fix most of it so it's not a problem but the extra work can get annoying if you mind stuff like that.

Went at it again tonight:

Thanks for the info Neil. I'm going to give this a try one of these days.

Hey guys,

i'm from germany and i followed this thread a long time. I started a website called rigshots.de (external link) with tutorials / equipment tips (external link) and some informations about rig shots (external link). Feel free to visit it ;) ATTENTION: It's written in german ;)

here are some results

So, what do you think about it?

I've got some question: I would like to use some carbon pipes. Can someone give me a tip? Which bore I need and which material thickness? Is the vibration behavior of carbon better than aluminums?

PS: Sorry, my english is not the best, but i hope you understand what i mean :)
