By not being able to articulate the clamp on the mount you would only be able to use the clamps on a surface which was completely flat!

So on a curved body panel or windscreen, you wouldn't be able to line the clamps up properly!

my first rig not in a garage. I had some problems with the time and the bridge. because it was an old bridge and the ground level was not good. So i had some vibrations with the pipe and the pictures are to blur. The next problem was, the owner of the car could not wait a long time. he was busy. After 30 minutes he finished the shooting. When he starts his car and turned the lights on, I knew what i have forgot on my pictures. There was no light in my pictures.

Yeah exif only shows 1/8s....you need 2-3 sec exposures
