Was that 2.5 second shutter speed? If so I would try lowering your shutter speed. No need to open it to 2.5 second. The longer the shutter is open the more blur you get. More rigid pole, pushing the car, and turning off the engine are also going to help. Good luck.

Yes 2.5 shutter speed. I was thinking 1 second might not me long enough but I'll give it a shot. The ground I was on was completey flat, I tried rolling in neutral but it wasn't really working out it seemed. Are you saying get out and push it then run back in to steer?

Just get a buddy to push..... VERY hard to get a sharp shot when you drive the car (engine running). Also set your shutter on a timer or remote release.

Agree with James33. Use remove trigger and have a friend to push the car. Another trick I did to get the car sharp is to take a picture of the car before its moving. That way you can composite the really blurry part if needed.

When you're pushing, you're really not going fast at all. The car should be able to stop on its own. If you really wanna be in the picture, take a picture with you in it first then merge it.

So I went back out tonight to the same spot and gave it another go using some of the tips you guys gave me. And I must say I'm fairly pleased with the results. I left the engine off and rolled the car this time instead of messing around in first gear. Much better for sure. Still wondering though how much bounce is reduced with a tightening wire on the rig. Might still give that a shot considering how cheap the parts are. Thanks for the tips and hints guys, much appreciated. I'm sure ill get better each time :)

Here is a shot of my RX8 and my girlfriends Accord, any C&C would be great thanks.

The Accord came out a little blurry, I only tryed a few shots with the rig on her car before we left so this was the best one.

For those of you who have carbon fiber booms, where is the best place to get them from?

I don't see what the big deal is with CF booms. I mean, they're nice, but at a minumum of $1200, they don't give you any bang for the buck. I suppose if you're shooting a 1DMKIII or D3X with some huge lens, and you're wanting the boom to be 20' long, sure, but other than that, it's a waste of money IMO, as you'll NEVER see that money in the shot. Some of the most watched photographer's on DieselStation use my boom, and it's a big-bad $199. This isn't a sales pitch, I'm just saying, the IDEA of CF is better than the reality, and it certainly won't make your shots any better...unless you're using a craptastic boom now.
