Ok I have a few options for alu tubing for my boom, what do you guys think is the best option?

50mm x 1.6mm 4.5kg per length (6.5m)
40mm x 1.6mm 3.2kg
40mm x 3mm 6kg
32mm x 1.6 3kg
32mm x 3 5kg

So what would you guys choose? All are 6063 grade

Anyone got any input on this before I order some?

higher diameter available with the lowest weight to have the most "nerve"

so 50mm 1,6 is good

Looks like it could be going into a right hand bend in the road...

Why not buy an aluminum flagpole? I bought one that came in 4 sections that slip together, then used a wire and turnbuckles to give it tension (like you see in most people's rigs who use wires). It works fine, is 2" in OD, is light, and VERY cheap. I think it was about $100 at Lowes or online somewhere. Plus, it can either be 12 or 16 ft depending on how many sections you use.

I don't see what the big deal is with CF booms. I mean, they're nice, but at a minumum of $1200, they don't give you any bang for the buck. I suppose if you're shooting a 1DMKIII or D3X with some huge lens, and you're wanting the boom to be 20' long, sure, but other than that, it's a waste of money IMO, as you'll NEVER see that money in the shot. Some of the most watched photographer's on DieselStation use my boom, and it's a big-bad $199. This isn't a sales pitch, I'm just saying, the IDEA of CF is better than the reality, and it certainly won't make your shots any better...unless you're using a craptastic boom now.

can i has CF boom

Any one ever thought of one of these...

Spied a rig shot shoot on Facebook today with Team Japspeed. Wondered what boom was being used as it looked telescopic, downloaded photo - zoomed in and bobs ur uncle!

Yeah its minimum length is 210cm but that will fit in my boot through the arm rest!
