I bought one that came in 4 sections that slip together, then used a wire and turnbuckles to give it tension (like you see in most people's rigs who use wires). It works fine, is 2" in OD, is light, and VERY cheap. I think it was about $100 at Lowes or online somewhere. Plus, it can either be 12 or 16 ft depending on how many sections you use.

I mean, they're nice, but at a minumum of $1200, they don't give you any bang for the buck. I suppose if you're shooting a 1DMKIII or D3X with some huge lens, and you're wanting the boom to be 20' long, sure, but other than that, it's a waste of money IMO, as you'll NEVER see that money in the shot. Some of the most watched photographer's on DieselStation use my boom, and it's a big-bad $199. This isn't a sales pitch, I'm just saying, the IDEA of CF is better than the reality, and it certainly won't make your shots any better...unless you're using a craptastic boom now. can i has CF boom
