Very nice photos, just as you said, few stops underexposed.
But I would be happy with those as my first shots.
I am currently waiting for my avenger cups to arrive, and tomorow I sould start ond constructing alu. boom.. :)

Thank you, yes - im looking forward to try it with the ND filter in bright sun. Do somone stack ND and CPL or would it be to much vigneting? Im using Tokina 11-16.
Good luck with your rig!;)

And don't forget to add a driver in your car :)

There is a driver in both pictures, with the Sparco dress and everything - but not the best angles for seeing the driver. ;)

Overexposed but a bigger problem is it looks like only your wheels are spinning. Due to the lack of motion from anything in the background.
You could've tried turning the car and that wuld've given you plenty of background motion blur.

I don't think he can turn  Look at the picture again :)

Thanks man! Ive only done composites for strobe/ light painting shoots. Ive thought about composiyes in rigging...but u dont get blur on car reflections...hence more masking, cloning...etc...

i find it better to take a few more shots on the rig in motion in hopes to capture that super sharp one. jus my .02

i got a viper this week maybe... any tips form those who have rigged one?

Wow a lot of information thanks for making the thread :) one thing im still wondering about and just cant find the answer to yet. What do you use for a filter to make a longer exposure in the sun? Thank you

A ND (Neutral Density) filter, some use a CP (Circular Polarizer) if it's not too bright, and some stack both. ND filters come in different densities, i.e. they stop more light. You need to figure how many stops you need to lose in order to get a 4-5 sec exposure. Obviously shooting at 100 iso and f/22 or so.

I am working on my alu. boom while waiting for Avenger cups to arrive.
I just have one question for you guys; what do you guys find easier to edit out in postprocessing? Just plain aluminum or mat black or something else?

That's an interesting point actually. If it was white chances are it'd be blown to pure white in the photo which might make it easier to remove, also the reflection of it would be more obvious so you're less likely to miss a bit that needs cloning out.

Ready to pull the trigger on all of the parts (super clamps (external link), f1000s (external link), magic arm (external link)) and I was wondering if anyone ever tried the manfrotto pole (external link) as a boom?

~1.8in thick (45.40mm)

Any cause for concern using that as opposed to aluminum with couplers?

Also, is there a different magic arm I should get?

It's a waste of your money. Don't skimp on the boom dude, your EQUIPMENT is hanging from it!
