That looks more like a chase.

Given the amount of downforce an F1 car has (bumpy) and how valuable it's body is, throws rig out of the window.

The amount of down force a car produces is irrelevant at 1mph...

Looks like car2car for me too. You got a racetrack and a second car? Why would you be bothered to mount a rig on that thing - especially only for a "magazine shot". Furthermore, just look at James' homepage. He does a lot of car2car pics.

LOL!! Yes, very true. But I still say it was car2car chase.

All the parts but my boom came today, so I used my monopod as a boom.

the rig:

it was, well, bouncy to say the least. However, I will call the day a success. Thanks for all the help everyone. I will let y'all know how the manfrotto pole works out when it comes in this Wednesday.

edit: Put something up on my site.

Hi all, currently in the process of assembling my own rig, have gone with the usual Manfrotto setup (2* suction mounts, 3* super clamps, and a magic arm). One of the final pieces of the puzzle with be an ND filter, what ND do you use/recommend?

Cheers Andy.

You guys think this was done with a rig? With the curved surfaces of the F1 car would it not make it difficult to get the suction cups and clamps aligned?

Why would they necessarily use suction pads? Would be a lot easier to just use two superclamps coupled together and clamped onto the wishbones...

I've seen a custom CF rig on F1 cars, it mounts where the front nosecone is and records HD videos without the rig getting in the way. I'll try to dig it out, there was a documentary about F1 done with the Williams team.

Can't wait to try this out! Getting the parts for my rig (suction cups and mounts) from the local camera shop. May have to wait for availability :-)
