you are right about that too! The measuring of the OD/ID are different for each.

I believe pipes are used to transport substance and tubes used more for the construction of things. This is why tubes are measured by the OD and wall thickness (to calculate things like strength) while pipes go by there ID (since you'd need to join them together and make calculations of flow and such). granted everything has an OD and ID...but tubing can be round or rectangular also and used to transport fluids and such too.

Anyways, steel pipes will be heavy. If you want to get a longer rig boom, look into aluminum tubing

I just went to home depot and saw they have 1 1/2" EMT steel pipes 10Ft.

only thing is they dont offer Cutting services...
where else can i get those pipes but 5ft?
Guessing around NYC/Brooklyn

Not necessarily. The difference between the two is how they're measured (Pipe is measured by inside diameter "ID" vs. Tube, which is measured by outside diameter "OD"). Typically, you'll want something with linear rigidity (for aluminum, think larger wall thickness) for your automotive rig boom poles. The less deflection your boom has at its given length, the better. The larger the wall thickness, though, the heavier your rig is going to be. You'll need to find a balance between the overall weight, the length, what your suction cups can hold, what your vehicle's panels can hold, etc. That's where all the fun begins! :)

Well I'm definitely not buying Galvalized (spelling??) pipes/tubing as they were extremely heavy.

Something like this is good right?

I will contact local piping stores around me and get some quotes.

Also what is needed to conjoin sections together?

that is extremely small tubing, you could bend that by hand. a majority of rigs ive seen on here is 1.9" OD aluminum conduit tubing.

was hanging out with a buddy the other day. We just made acquaintances a week ago. He owns a really nice 335i that's been modified a bit. Went to my spot to shoot the **** and take a few pictures for fun.
