First ever attempt at a rig shot, in less than Ideal conditions... aaand I missed the focus slightly. Borrowed the rig from a friend who built it himself...

Did my first rig shot today ... bright daylight .. used a variable ND filter on my 5D3 with 17-40mm lens.. crazy how easily it bounces around at the end of a 20' pole even when the car is moving at just 1 mph!

Here's some BTS shots as well as the unedited and final image. I'm not super happy with my cloning job, but for my first attempt, It's ok I think.

I look forward to feedback from you guys who have been doing it for a long time.

BTW - I did this without an assistant.. I was behind the car pushing/pulling it, using a wireless shutter release for the camera. 2.5 second shutter speed

Dude, I think you did a fantastic job, but don't rig alone!!! And pushing the car is a last resort. Get yourself a cable pull, the control difference is astounding. Also, if your surface is less than perfect, make yourself a tension/stabilization wire, very easy, and will give you more room for error!

Instructions are on the 3rd pic.

Also, send me that last image in 1280, I'd like to share it!

Made some improvements to my rig to allow a full 6.5m (21ft) without any sag with my heavy D800 and 24-70 f2.8 attached. Really happy with the setup so far, just need to upgrade the cups and I'll be sorted!

Here's the result at 6m length and cropped in a bit:

this image is a little on the wacky side. Sort of tried a lot of things on this one, PP wise. It was a pretty standard shot to begin with, read: plain, so I figured I'd try to take it in a far out direction. Let me know what you think, good and bad :)

Man, the average level of rig-shot in this thread has come a long way. So happy to see that!

Nice one! Just one question...how come there is a narrow strip of the background which shows no motion blur at all? Is that due to the rotation as the car is turning?

love the PP! Congrats on the cover too :) The car might run into the corrugated panels eventually but still a good shot imo!
