There have been so many inspiring photos submitted by the group in this thread, and since the CDN dollar's been doing a bit better as of late, I decided that rather than just looking at the water I'd take the plunge. With all the information I've gleaned from the posts you folks have been writing, I also figured I had a good idea of what was needed - essentially everything that Andrew from Rig Pro recommends; I like the "better safe than sorry" mindset.

Bought the Aluminum pipe this afternoon and delivered it to the machine shop for threading, and just finished ordering all the bits and pieces from B&H and Filmtools. I went with four 5' sections of pipe - 1.66" OD; 3 of schedule 80 and 1 of schedule 40 - and enough clamps, pins, swivels, and vacuum cups for 3 complete mounting sets just so that I'll have options. I'll also add the stabilization cable for times when I'll use the full 20' setup.

Everything should arrive over the next couple weeks, and hopefully I'll be able to give it a try by month's end.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the tips and advice that you, as a group collectively, have shared so far, and hope that you'll be open to more questions once I get started.

Sounds awesome man. You only made one mistake; you purchased your cups from Filmtools instead of supporting small business and getting them from me. Will I die over the $10 lost? No. It's just a mindset of giving back.

Take care in your rigging!

Not my best work, haven't rigged in months but wanted to test out a new stabiliser. Believe it or not, this is a 1200+HP Turbocharged V8 drag rig with stock wheels on (hence the big gaps under the arches).

Area was quite shady, so really had to push the ISO and open the aperture more than I'd normally like.

Dude, nothing wrong with that shot, it just has some distortion issues. And remember, when you're wanting to decrease that wheel gap, or cabin size, get LOW, it'll help both a lot.

Nice shot, with good shadow detail & a nice highlight in the side & windows.

Yeah definitely agree... I need your 30" extension!

With the new stabiliser the rig doesn't "sag" like I'm used to. The magic arm was fully extended down but this was as low as I could get, even with the small spigot on the front and the longest extension on the rear cup.

I knew you'd like the highlights ;-)a

I did one polarised but didn't like it anywhere near as much
