A70 problem: short inside camera???

Awhile back my A70's LCD wouldn't show a display or record pictures, although it would display recorded pictures. I discovered that a slight twist of the body of the camera would correct the problem, but it would return occasionally. Last week, I turned on the camera and the display was black. No amount of twisting of the camera body would correct it.

I assume there's a loose connection inside the camera. Is this something I can fix myself or will I have to take it in to be repaired? Because it's an old camera, I can't help but wondering whether it's worth the expense. I like this camera because I have both wide-angle and telephoto lenses for it and am not sure whether I can buy a new camera with which these lenses be compatible.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? And if I should investigate getting it repaired, can you recommend an inexpensive/reliable mail-order repair service?

Thanks,

Bob

Have you got any electronics skills/a multimeter/soldering ability etc.? It would be likely hard to pick and safely fix a problem without some idea of what you were doing...

If it's going to be too expensive to fix anyway you might as well give it a go, though :p

Yes, I'm fairly handy with electronics, soldering, have a multi-meter, etc. I should have mentioned that in photo mode, the screen does display the controls and settings and when I twist the camera body, some horizontal white lines flash on the screen.

Check the sticky at the top of this forum about the PowerShot Service Notice. It sounds like you may be a candidate for a free repair from Canon.

Great advice, Jon! It sounds very much like that service notice applies to my problem. I'll call Canon today and report back on how things turn out.
