I am getting a 40D and have not decided between these 3 lenses: 16-35, 17-55, or 24-70. Forget about price, which will be the best wide angle zoom for the 40D? I will have a 70-200, 50, 85, as well. I am going to be upgrading to a 1dmkIII eventually (which also has a crop factor) so unsure of which of these 3 to get. Thanks

I am getting excellent results using the Canon EF-S 18-55 IS lens. Canon DPP can correct distortion usign the tune option.

My fast lens in the range is the Sigma 30mm F1.4.

24-70 is not a 'wide angle' zoom when used on a 40D or any other APS-C camera! It is a 'wide normal-to-short tele' in the AOV it provides for that format.

The 17-55 is the best 'wide angle zoom' on APS-C, but it will not work with a non-APSC body.

17-55 hands down.

If you end up getting a 1D ... I can just about guarantee you'll hold onto the 40D anyway.

From the ones you've listed, 16-35 L is the sweetest...

17-55 over the 24-70. Can't comment on the 16-35 as I've never owned one.

17-55 IS hands down.

I warn you ahead of time, once you put it on your 40D you might have a hard time removing it!

Will the 17-55 work if I ever got a full frame? If not, will the 16-35?

My only other comment is that I never dreamed how useful the Image Stabilization would be on the 17-55. It is a life saver for those special moment shots if you're in poor lighting.

17-55 will not fit on a full frame. The 16-35 will
