Pictures taken on Saturday - Mens 1st division playoff rugby match - won by Meralomas.

The match was fairly pedestrian - lots of goal line stands and scrum play and little spectacular action - so I started to concentrate at the background of the shots... by standing in one end zone, I could shoot the length of the field without getting the numerous sideline spectators in the background.

Shot with 40D & 70-200 f/4 IS - speeds from 500 to 1,600 in intermittent bright sunshine and under dark clouds - just cropping done to the shots.

C & C welcome, and any comments about the background... do you generally find background spectators (like in 6 & 7) distract from the subjects or enhance the shot?

Nice shots. when taking sports in the smaller local grounds its hard to get player background separation.

Thx. Not sure if this is a question re: location, but the games are played at Connaught Park at 10th and Vine Street in the Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver.
