i have to agree wholeheartedly. we're all tired of the megapixel race, now im looking more into bigger microlenses/pixel density (light gathering ability) in sensors rather than their megapixel size. and how many more AF points, cross-type or otherwise, is ever enough? now the rage seems to be in High ISO performance, and very soon flash units will be redundant

i expect to use my 1DM3 til it conks off... 'yeah, right' you may say.. there's a gearhead in every one of us which i don't deny being guilty of. but i agree that we're coming to an age where just about any current or older DSLR can do a great job in the right hands w/o worrying about lack of features/functions to get the job done.

hell yeah you agree. i have the mark III too and i think the old cameras are just great :D!

all this holding true, i'm still anticipating the release of the 5D MkII intently. having a 5D with updated AF, a faster processor, faster shutter, and new menu IU sounds like the ingredients for a perfect dSLR. ever since i bought my 40D, i've really fallen in love with it, but i don't feel like my 24-70 is in its element on my 1.6x crop. if i could keep all the perks of the 40D on a full frame body, i don't see what else i could possibly want in a camera at this point. =)

Yes I also agree. What has improved IMHO since the 10D is high ISO performance. This is getting better all the time. Now saying that does my 20D take "better" pictures than my 10D? No it does not, really. Not under 800 ISO. The difference is wake up time, high ISO performance and speed (fps). These are the ONLY reasons I got a 20D. The one real **** I have is shutter life. I wish the camera manufacturers would make shutters last longer. I have NEVER replaced a shutter on a film camera, never. Shutter failures just seem to happen far too often, even on 1 series cameras. hjs

i suppose the real question is, when is the last time you put your film body through 300,000 frames? ;)

It is great, although I slightly resent the fact that my 350D and 40D cost the same, just it was 2 years apart..

Yea as you know this is not what I am talking about. 300K I don't have a problem with. It's the poor old DR that would die before 10K or 20-30D's that don't make it to 50K that ticks me off. I don't shoot a ton like most people do (less than 5K on the 10D, less than 8K on the 20D) and have not had to replace a shutter on any of my Canons. Knock on wood............... :D

That is why I am of the opinion that it is good policy not to jump on the latest technology right out of the gate... Technology moves too fast for the initial selling price to hold firm.

What I like about digital is that today I bought a brand new EOS 1V film body for £500 from my local camera shop because he only had that one left in stock and felt that nobody would ever buy it so I offered him £250, then we haggled a bit and I got it for £500.

Part of me wants to get a film body again. Elan IIe bodies sell for less than $50 on eBay! I remember when the Elan IIe came out in '96 I wanted one so badly! I was 8 years old at the time, but you get the idea.

I may just do that...

Yep - my 20D's still taking competitive photos easily... and I'm pretty sure it will until there's either a massive revolution in sensors or it breaks.

I love digital but nothing gives me the sense of satisfaction that developing my own film does.

Hells yea! The smell of stopper in the afternoon, ahhhhhh . Black and white digital prints are nowhere near as nice as film prints too, they lack the inherent depth. Silver halide crystals > ink anyday!

How about, "when is the last time someone actually put a film body through 50,000 frames - never mind 300,000".

50,000/38 slides per roll = 1,315 rolls of 36 exposure film. I might have shot several hundred, but I doubt it.

50,000/26 slides per roll = 1,923 rolls of 24 exposure film. I wouldn't have any room to store them.

The curse of digital is that we keep thinking that the shots are for free. It's like saying it doesn't matter how many miles/km you put on a car. Wear is directly related to use.

Shutter fail? What a surprise (not).:D

When did voluptuous become voluminous?
