Hi guys,

I'm going to Europe in a couple of days and I'm in need of some advice. I'm going to take my 5MDH with me to Europe along with my backpack for 5 weeks. Do you guys think it will be safe if I carry my camera on my neck for most of the day? I'm asking this because I'll want to use a daypack for water, snacks, and etc. If I have my Crumpler, it'll be hard to do. I'm planning on bringing my bg-e2 grip as well.

Thanks!

Hi - I have travelled a bit in europe - Mallorca, Spain, Italy, France and Portugal - and always carry my camera round my neck and sometimes hang another off my shoulder too. This is in a variety of places - busy mafkets, ports, villages and large towns etc. I have yet to have any problems with the locals. They're 99.9% a friendly bunch much like anywhere in the western world I would guess.

We are no different in Europe to the other side of the Atlantic!

There are some dodgy areas (mainly in the centres of towns near tourist traps - Trevi fountain in Rome springs to mind) where you should exercise additional caution but thats the case in every city I have ever been to (in UK, Italy, France, Switzerland, USA and Canada). Go downtown in any major city anywhere and you should have your radar working!

Just use the same precautions you would at home and you will be fine.

So long as you're not silly and wander through really dodgy areas with it exposed you ought to be fine. When travelling through Europe I saw other travellers with DSLRs out all the time...

I think I'm primarily afraid that I'll get jacked or something at the train stations lol.

but thanks for the advice guys, I'll probably just hang it around my neck for convenience.
