Basic pc for photography

Since my daughter has moved in with us i can't get to the pc to do any PP lol.

My skills are awful anyway and the way things are i don't think i will be getting any practice soon.

If i plan to get a second cheap set up what sort of thing would you get i.e monitor size, speed, memory and any thing else.

All i would be doing is storing pics and using it for editing jobs.

With my daughter on MSN for hours at a time i could throttle her lol

And who is the boss in your house? Yes, it's the youngest member that rules here.

You can get a fairly new desktop for around $450. No kidding! You couldn't touch it years ago. Get an HP or Compaq, not even used. I know you are in the UK, but I'm sure you can get something decent at your local discount store, even WalMart sells Dells now.

Dell also sells refurbished ones at a good price.

Dual core processor, at least a gig of ram and a decent HDD - 500 gig or so should be good enough. It's an upgrade I am looking to make soon.

If you like your old machine for what you are doing, then buy a bottom of the line machine for your kid to play on, and keep her off the better machine.

I just built a fast computer, and my kid now uses my old PC for her web games and such.
I should probably have my wife use that one too.

My system is now about 4 years old..

AMD64 3000+ processor. I upped the RAM to 2gb, which works much better now for photoshop. For storage I have 500gb, but you may not need that much.

And if you run WinXP instead of Vista you can run a cheaper/older machine.

Good point.

You might even be able to find one with XP on it.
