Main dial not responding

My main dial on my 350D just stopped working. It doesn't respond to anything, in any of the camera modes etc. I can't find any information about this problem and have never had a single problem with my camera before.
I'm not getting any error messages from the camera, the dial just isn't responding. I've taken out the batteries and I'm currently waiting to see if that will fix the problem, but I doubt it's that simple...

Does any one have any experiences with this? I tried searching on the forums but couldn't find any relevant threads... any and all help appreciated...

I hadn't even thought about that. Yes, the dial on the grip worked, so at least I can operate the camera and we know it's a problem with the main dial not connecting (or something).

I guess I'll call Canon and ask what the charge for fixing this problem...

Try a shot of air in case there's some junk interfering with the switch? I wouldn't try any kind of solvent, though.

Jon, I can't thank you enough. A few squeezes from my air blower actually did the trick, so now the dial operates just like it should. I would have never even though about that, so well... Thanks!

Reviving a dead thread... this happened to me also. The dial on my XTi stopped working. After spinning the dial on my grip, the dial on the body worked fine. Something must have gotten crossed up in the programming and using the grip dial cleared it out.

I have seen that happen a couple times, it was actually the little "on/off" switch...it was half turned....and would allow the grip to work but not the main dial.

It's entirely possible that was my issue... I have the Opteka grip and the on/off switch has always seemed a little loose.

I'd offer to name my firstborn after you (so great is my relief) but he's 16 and probably won't react well to a name change at this point. Nonetheless, I'm so glad you responded to the original post here.
And in my head, I will refer to my son as Parker(Jon) from this point on.

I know this is years later, but I felt it necessary to share my fix to this problem. I had tried air burst, etc with no luck. To be clear, the dial that is used with the right index finger to change shutter stopped responding. My fix was:

In M mode, hit the trash can button to enter magic lantern. Switched the option for "Expo/ Lock" from "OFF" to "AV/ISO", and it worked. Then I could switch it back to "OFF" and the wheel is responsive again.
