Boston Marathon 2008

Just got back from Boston, here are some shots from the race:

the first 3 are out of focus-dotn work for me the others are fine

#1 the shutter speed was way too low. I'm guessing they were walking and their feet are blurred.

I think your pictures are very focused and sharp. I like the action in them. Nice contrast.

They look sharp to me too. #3 could have used a little more DOF. I was drawn to the runner/walker on the left, but the guy in front on the right is the one in focus.

Images are in focus ...just not on central subject. Also 100th sec shutter is far too slow.

Not if you want to pan, or show motion. Probably too fast in reality for walking/running.

Dont think that was his intention in this case.

Nice shots, my only comment would be that the faces are in shadow and a bit dark. I've found that my 580 can give a touch of fill in cases like this.

These are good. I do triathlons and I feel these really capture the "mood" of the race.

Was that stated somewhere? I don't think he was panning, but certainly could have been trying to show motion by letting the feet blur. Perhaps he just got lucky, but perhaps he meant to? Hard to say.

The first picture with the motion blur wasn't intentional. I had just got a place along the race route when I saw the military group approaching. I didn't notice the slow shutter speed at the time I took the picture, my fault. I really wish that the lower shutter speed limit on the Mark III could be set higher than 1/60.

I don't shoot a lot of running/sports, just a few pictures at various marathons that my wife runs.
