Hi all, how does one get that cotton looking waterfall look in broad daylight?

Take a look at THIS SHOT of mine of the ocean. I have my technique listed, but it involves a 9 stop ND Filter. 72 seconds smoothed out the waves (and disappeared the surfers!) for what I think is an eerie effect.

Canonwhitelens,
A little W/B adjustment would fix that. But since thats your effect, no need to.

Thanks, I appreciate the tip. When I go "digital" I'll remember that, and do that if I ever get an image like that again. If I want to "warm" it up that is. :) Much appreciated.

Is there a quality ND filter avaliable for a reasonable price? I am sure the Sings are worth the price but I still have a lot of glass left to buy. :(

OMG. that is an awesome link.

i can't beleive those filters cost so much. :(. I guess i'm stuck to wait until dawn to get the affect i want for a while.

i found a cheaper alternative - i already have a HOYA pro slimline CPL... stack onto this a quality linear polariser LPL (usually cheaper because they are not suitable for digital) and presto, when you rotate just the linear (make sure the CPL is between the LPL and the lens, and your digital shots will be fine) it darkens exactly the same way as a singh-ray setup

i read somewhere that 2 CPLs stacked together do not produce the same effect. 2 LPLs do, however again with no CPL in the stack, it is only suitable for film shooting

I can't decide if I like that above or this version the best; (but you get the idea).

What an amazing shot. Singh ND? or another brand?

Darker ones are generally more speciallist and I got my ND400 from China through eBay for about £35 (same for the graduated ND filter).

Hi,

You wouldnt have the ebay sellers details would you??? Would love to get my hands on one of these.

Thanks

Tim

Brand of filter I used there - Kenko. I don't remember where I got it though high-street photo shops will stock up to ND8's. Anything darker is more speciallist (I bought my ND400 from China through an eBay shop).
