Has anybody heard of the ebay seller assiabackgrounds (external link)? As much as I'd like to make a purchase right away, I'd rather ask around on the net first to look for advice and to see if anybody has heard of or dealt with them.

Thanks,
-Daniel

Since I was unable to find ANY feedback about this company, I will share my experience for the sake of anybody else considering dealing with asiabackgrounds.

I ordered one of those thin, 6x9' spotty grey backdrops for $13 shipped. With no confirmation of order and no feedback from the seller, I was quite shocked when this backdrop showed up in a fat plastic bag a a week after I placed my order.

Is it useful? Yes and no. It's so thin that you need a backer sheet, I use a bed sheet, and it appears to be one of those dyed ones, so you need to be careful not to handle it too much. In my case I have it rolled up on a fairly long PVC pipe along with a white bed sheet. I use it a lot and I personally think it was worth it, but for my second backdrop I think I'll buy a "real" muslin.

For those interested, I've attached this sample image.

was it advertised as a "sheer" background? I saw that person/company was selling some of those when I was looking for one.

I have ordered from assiabackgrounds and mine was thick and was actual muslin. I did however also order sheer backdrops from another seller that sound like what you are describing dan. Not sure though of course...cant tell completely by your picture. I have to put back sheet under my sheer ones but not my backdrop i got from assiabackdrops...now i will say that it was not the pattern that showed in the picture per se. that was my only complaint...although i was decently satisfied with the print i got

I examined one of their backgrounds a friend purchased. It was the painted muslin. I thought it was a really good deal. I think he paid $25 including shipping. It was heavy enough and good colors. It was also sort of stiff which I liked.
