Hey guys & gals. I've got an assignment for a class that I shot and need some feedback. I had to do either Pain or Passion, and took the pain route.

This is for a digital photo manipulation class, so the edit had to be somewhat heavy, and I know it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'd like comments on the shot & processing overall.

Thanks in advance (the jpeg compression has some affect on the web version btw)

It definitely gets the idea of Pain across. And she looks like she might enjoy inflicting it...

Nice capture and edit given the assignment.

yeah, i've gotten that feedback a couple times now. i was trying to make the initial shot a little more evil looking with the red gel.

I wanted the shot to have a dark & gritty feel to it which is why i went with the gelled flash. I will keep that in mind with my next shoot and maybe use a straight flash and add color in post if it's needed.

looks like u turned the mood of the whole pic pretty good. i like the efects on me but u might give them a once over again for a little more realism the one on my cheek looks more like a ketchup splat might just be my screen. when are u suposed to here about that contest?

Very cool picture! I love the look on her face but to me it seems like the guy is trying hard not to laugh...maybe she should have pricked him! Great pictures! Can we see the original?

thanks nick, it may be your screen. i'll let you take a look at the high res version in class next week to be sure. it should be up in the gallery downstairs and i should know in a couple weeks if it wins anything.

My first thought was "Why does she have a dirty face?".
I think it would be better if she were pristine and he is humbled and dirty as she is the one inflicting the pain.

thanks for your feedback. I was on the fence with that also. I decided to keep it because when it's not there, the whole mood of the scene changes. I wanted a sinister feel coming from her so that's why I decided to keep it. I will play a little more with that as well before it's due.

Looks good, one thing to watch is the halo around the folks in the dark areas.

Question: How did you get a hospital room to do this in?

thanks, i'll give it another close look over and get rid of the rest of the halo-ing. i tried to minimize some of that before as well.

My wife works at the hospital, and we had to get permission from the floor manager, and as long as there was an open room & no patient info was in there then it was fine for me to set up & shoot. The manager really liked the shot too, he told all the nurses they should blow it up and put a big sign up that said, "WELCOME TO FLOOR 9!"
