I was wondering if I want to get a Good baseball shot using AV mode.I am also using a cheap 75-300mm non IS f/4 5.6 lens. it will also be a day game. what do you think i should set me lens to for a good blured background and focus on my subject.

thanks
Also anyone selling there 70-200mm 2.8 it can be the IS or NON

well with that lens you are going to want it wide open, but to be honest, you are going to have a hard time getting a nice good blurred background with an F4-5.6 lens.

For baseball you most likely shoot with the lens set between 200 or 300 which will set your aperture at 5.6. If you're focusing on a pitcher and there is quite a bit of distance between the picher and whatever is behind him you'll get some blurring of the background but if you're focusing on a batter, generally there are dugouts, backstops, etc., fairly close so an aperture of 5.6 won't give you the blurred backdrop that will make the subject pop in the image.

You might want to also pick up a 1.4 TC for a little more reach. Are you refuring to 70-200 2.8 ?
(great lens)

A 70-200 2.8 with a 1.4 will definitely get you some good images although the 4.0 max aperture with the 1.4 on will not give you quite the blurred background that 2.8 will. Make sure you post some of the images. Good luck!

I have the 70-200 f/2.8 and 1.4tc combo using it for baseball as well. It will get you some great photos as said above. However, if your subject is close to the backgroud (i.e., in dougout) you won't get the best blur. Shoting the kids (man that sounds bad) while playing on the field will provide adequete separation for blur.
