OK, you knocked my socks off!

The only thing that bothers me is the kid's hand in front of the frame ... it sort of makes the image look like an Escher. However, I do understand the various reasons that you did it that way ... he needed to be connected to the scene and it would not have worked well to have his hand cut off by being behind the frame.

Good start. For coming OOB pictures, do have a look at your shadows. In this picture, they are not consistent with each other. I don't know about others, but I get distracted by this.

Got : 350D, 17-85 IS , nifty, Sigma 10-20, 70-200 f4L, 70-200 IS f4L, 430EX, SB-24, tripods and stuff...

One of the most creative uses of OOB I've ever seen. Most imaginative.

Do have a background in graphics illustration?

Couldn't have done this in a wet darkroom. TG for photolshop.
