Just look at my name and figure out all the possibilities. Both my first AND last name.

Duncan- Dunkin, Dustin, Dave (seriously, people get DAVE when I say Duncan)

Frenz - Friends, Frens, Franz

But even worse than the spelling or wrong name is the ORDER they get it in.

Customer Service - "And what is your first name sir?"
Me - "Duncan"
CS - "Okay, and what is your FIRST name??"
ME - "Really, it is Duncan"

*sigh*

Ok so some of you have it rough. Try working in the same company for over 21yrs, and no one uses your first name, ever? Now, try graduating from a University that is in your home town, and you have worked there for the last five years with the same results as your other employment?

My last name is Murray!
I've heard it pronounced Moo Ray, Mur fee, Moo Aye, and many other ways!
And let's not get into spellings of the name!

And for the last twenty years, and five years as an Associate Professor, I've been Murray Murray, or just Murray!

My name is Christa and have always had a problem with people getting it wrong: Christina, Christy, Christie, any variety other than the CORRECT one!
I have worked at the hospital for over a year and every time when I go in to work they have it wrong on the patient/room assignment board. I always say something, never helps. Guess it could be worse though...

Of course she noticed. She's a sweet person, and decided not to embarrass me. She didn't say anything. When I discovered the error, I apologized immediately.......months later.

That's "brilliant and humble people," Tom. Traits we both share.

I have four names: René Roger Hector Breton.

My last name is "Breton." Six letters, very simple. It's the name of a People, people. My People, the Bretons. From Brittany (Bretagne), in France.

It is not "Briton," "Britton," "Britain," "Brenton," or any of the dozen or so other spellings people insist on using.

My first name is "René," four letters, with an acute accent on the last "é". I don't insist on the accent. This name is very old, very historical, very French, and very masculine.

My name is most certainly not "Renée" or "Renee," which many people insist upon using. Those are female names. Guaran-damned-tee I am not female.

Coupled with the name business, my proper title is "Mr." or, for formal use only, "Dr." It is not now, never has been, and never will be "Mrs.", "Miss", or "Ms." I cannot tell you how many times I receive mail addressed to "Ms. Rene Breton." That is both insulting and stupid. And guaranteed to go right into the trash can unopened.

Don't know, don't care. God bless direct deposit!

Actually, they do have it right. And so do the U.S. Army, the Patent and Trademark Office, and a couple of other governmental agencies.

Ahaha.....

My name is Troy, but I get Trey (or possibly even Tray) sometimes.

I just go along, I'm not one to embarrass someone.

I get this a fair bit also. My surname is Carlill, not Carlisle, Carhill or any of the other variants. I shrug it off, except for the one time at a function waiting for a name tag to be written out I had the staff member tell me I was spelling my name wrong and wouldn't accept the spelling I was telling her.

Just today I had someone ring me to confirm my work email address. They had sent three messages to have them bounce each time. Each time they had spelt my surname incorrectly. The funny thing about it is I received two emails from this same person earlier this week.
