H i :) !!
..... ? .... Question :
My wife has just purchased the Canon PowerShot SD750 Digital IXUS 75.
A great compact digital camera !
...Now I know that this camera is not really made for movie making - nevertheless I see that the quality is quite good from the brief tryout I've had with it so far.
Apparently this camera uses ...multiple Jpeg ? as apposed to MPEG ? format....thus making the movie quality it produces quite good... AND, if I want to I can buy a waterprooof housing for it !!
Great for my surfing footage, right where the action is !

My questions :
1: Are there any ways I might just be able to make this great little camera a better movie making camera by thigs like (a) expanding it's memory capacity, (b) can I actually improve the movie quality by things like frames per second, pixel rate..(?) etc,
and any other suggestions which just might make this camera a better digital movie camera ?
2: I use Adobe Premiere 6.0 for my movie editing. This software progam will not accept multiple Jpeg format. Is it somehow possible to convert Multiple JPeg so that I can import the AVI files into Adobe Premiere and edit them to produce my movies.

3: I notice that Windows MovieMaker DOES in fact accept Multiple Jpeg format for editing. Should I therefore just use Windows MovieMaker for all my video editing ? ....( not such a good program to use ? )

 Fill me in guys.... I'd be most appreciative.

Well, 640x480x30 fps is pretty much standard TV, and you get up to 4 GB with that, which to me says around 36 min per clip/ That's if you just let it run non-stop. That's generally longer than you'll want a single segment to be, so I wouldn't worry. An 8 GB SDHC card should handle a cumulative 1 hr. of video.

Googling M-JPEG conversion suggests there are editing solutions out there, but IIRC even ZoomBrowserhas some cpabilities built in.

Hi Jon

Thanks indeed. Finally if you will, these last queeries :

You rightfully suggest I gather, that I simply leave the camera as it is
- I need not do anything, and that purchasing a 8GB SDHC card would be a good move ?

By converting my Multi Jpeg AVI files to MPEG, would I lose quality ?

640x480x30fps is as good as is gets single chip MPEG or Multi Jpeg, and can not be enhanced or improved on, other than going to a 3 chip video camera ?

Apparently the Multi Jpeg format is/are larger file/s. By how much - double ?
Is that a drawback and or hinderence when using Moviemaker to video edit ?
I'm noticing that Movie maker is " stuttering " as the indicator moves along the timeline, and I'm wondering why ?
Could it be, that as I am using larger Multi Jpeg files , MovieMaker is struggling to handle the load ?
My PC is OK for the task ? Its a Pent4 2.4GHz / 1gig Ram
but should I have it re looked at ?
Should I be using a different video editing program more suited to Multi J Peg files ?
I'm also curious to know how " accepted " this multiple Jpeg format is for movie editing and production, as I would assume that it's not the normally and more widely used format as MPEG.
But, am I right, the quality is actually better than single chip MPEG ?
That's why I'd like to use this camera, and particularly as I can do water shots.
Many of the MPEG cam corders don't have waterproof cases ?
It's another reason why this camera interests me as a movie camera.

I've also installed QuickTime and had a go at using its Video Editing program.
I don't like it one bit, but I'll use it if you think it might be better than MovieMaker

Cheers Jon. I do appreciate your help.
That's a lot of questions, but it would certainly give me a " clear picture "
if you'd be so kind.

Well, Canon's TX-1 digital is offering HD resolution (1280x720x30fps) for up to 4 GB (9 min.). I think other makers may be as well.

1 GB of RAM, IMO, is woefully inadequate unless you keep your clips well below that. Remember, that 1 GB is used by the OS and program as well as your data (video) file. Anything that isn't immediately needed will be written to hard drive and read back when it is required. This slows things down. At 640x480 res, a 2.4 GHz CPU may be OK; if you go for higher resolution you'll want a faster computer too.

I do very little with video; the 9 min. clips of my A620 are ample for me; and I don't do a lot of editing of them, so most of the rest of your questions I can't answer.
